Watch videoRubberdam
A composite filling must be applied under dry conditions so that the adhesion to the tooth is optimal and no cavities form under the filling or the filling comes loose. This is why at etiq dentists we almost always work with a rubber dam. This is a rubber patch that is used to optimally isolate the tooth and keep it dry.

Composite fillings are less wear-resistant than fillings made of porcelain. In addition, it is technique-sensitive, can shrink during curing and composite is prone to plaque after machining and insufficient polishing. Fortunately, at etiq dentists, we work with the best materials and techniques to prevent this.
The advantage of composite is that colour of composite is almost identical to that of your own teeth. It is fast and relatively inexpensive compared to porcelain, further, it can adhere to both enamel and dentin (adhesive dentistry). This allows for minimally invasive dentistry, where maximum healthy tooth tissue can be preserved.
Placing a composite filling is not painful. While treating a cavity, the tooth can be properly anaesthetised, making the treatment painless. If a cavity has been close to the nerve, the tooth may be a little more sensitive to heat and cold after treatment. Sometimes a cavity is so deep, and therefore close to the nerve, that root canal treatment is necessary.
The cost of a composite filling depends on the size and location. Costs range from around €70 for a small filling without anaesthesia to around €210 for a very large filling with anaesthesia and rubber dam (without any post-treatment X-ray). At etiq, we make a budget prior to treatment (above €250), so you always know what to expect.
According to scientific research, a composite filling lasts between 7 and 10 years. At etiq dentists, we are convinced that a filling can last longer if it is manufactured with the utmost precision. Of course, good oral hygiene and a proper diet also positively affect the lifespan of a composite filling.
