Gingivitis
The mouth is the mirror of the body, we know that at etiq. Together with you, we ensure good oral hygiene to cure or prevent gingivitis. This is how we help you achieve a healthy mouth.
Gingivitis
What is gingivitis?
Gingivitis is a common and usually mild form of gum disease. It is caused by the build-up of plaque, a sticky film of bacteria that forms on the teeth. When plaque is not removed regularly through self-care and possibly professional dental cleaning, it can lead to inflammation of the gums.

Treatment of gingivitis
All about gingivitis
Treatment of gingivitis is carried out by the prevention assistant or dental hygienist. This treatment consists of professional dental cleaning, instruction and possible advice. Depending on the situation and location, dental cleaning is performed with manual instruments or ultrasonic equipment and, if necessary, anaesthesia can be used. The instruction and advice are very important to ensure that your mouth remains healthy in the long term.
Causes of gingivitis
The causes of gingivitis are often related to insufficient oral hygiene, which causes plaque and tartar to build up and cause inflammation. Other factors such as smoking, diabetes, hormonal changes, poor diet and certain medications can also contribute to the development of gingivitis.
Preventing gingivitis
Gingivitis can be effectively prevented by maintaining a consistent oral hygiene routine. Daily brushing and cleaning between the teeth helps remove plaque, while regular dental checkups help detect and address any problems early.

Symptoms of gingivitis include red, weak and swollen gums and/or bleeding gums when brushing and cleaning between the teeth with e.g. toothpicks. A foul taste or bad breath can also be symptoms of inflamed gums, or gingivitis. Gingivitis does not often cause pain.
- Gingivitis is mainly caused by plaque, which accumulates due to inadequate cleaning of the teeth. It is therefore very important to clean teeth properly. At etiq, we can properly educate you.
You can prevent gingivitis by removing plaque as well and consistently as possible. It is also important to remove tartar and deposits professionally.
When gingivitis is present for a longer period of time, deeper gum inflammation can develop, called periodontitis. With gingivitis, there is no permanent damage yet; with periodontitis, bone disappears and the gums recede and do not return.
If deposits and tartar are not present, then gums can be restored to health by proper and consistent brushing and cleaning between the teeth with, for example, toothpicks, brushes and/or floss.
